Burgruine Bichishausen
Münsingen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Bichishausen is a well-preserved medieval rock castle ruin on a small hill in the Great Lauter Valley near Münsingen, Germany, built in the early 13th century by the Gundelfingen family atop an 11th-century site originally held by the Counts of Achalm.
The compact spur castle features a massive shield wall enclosing two courtyards, remnants of a 13th-century bergfried tower uncovered during 1973-1975 restorations, and traces of a palas accessed unusually through its cellar, reflecting its role as a border fortress between Württemberg and Fürstenberg.
Owned by various nobles like the Truchsessen von Bichishausen and Magolsheim before 17th-century destruction, it's now freely accessible via a short 150-meter walk from free valley parking, popular for hikes amid the Swabian Jura's scenic plateaus.
