Burgruine Blankenstein
Gomadingen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Blankenstein is the remains of a small medieval spur castle perched on a roughly 710‑meter‑high rock spur above the Brunnental, a side valley of the Großen Lauter, near the village of Wasserstetten in the municipality of Gomadingen in Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
The fortress was built in the 12th century by the noble lords of Blankenstein, served as the center of their local lordship, and later passed into the hands of Württemberg before falling into ruin around 1442. Today only the lower part of the once‑tall Bergfried (tower) made of distinctive buckelquaders survives, along with traces of a wall and a small neck ditch, and the site is reached by a short, informal forest path that makes it a quiet, atmospheric stop for hikers in the Swabian Alb.
