Burgruine Diepoldsburg
Lenningen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Diepoldsburg is a medieval double-castle ruin located on a rocky ridge high above the Lauter Valley near Lenningen in Baden-Württemberg.
Built around 1210 by the Knights of Diepoldsburg, the complex consisted of the Upper and Lower Diepoldsburg, with the lower section later becoming known as Burg Rauber. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Dukes of Teck and the Counts of Württemberg. After changing ownership multiple times, it gradually fell into ruin from the 16th century onward.
Preservation work carried out in the 1960s helped stabilize the remaining structures. Today, visitors can explore the restored walls, gateways, and defensive earthworks while enjoying panoramic views of the Swabian Alb landscape. The dramatic rock formations and scenic setting make Burgruine Diepoldsburg one of the most attractive castle ruins in the region.
