Burgruine Dietfurt
Inzigkofen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Dietfurt is the partly preserved ruin of a medieval hill castle above the village of Dietfurt, an Ortsteil of Inzigkofen in the Sigmaringen district of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
It sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube River and was originally built to control a strategically important river crossing along historic trade and transport routes. The site includes fragments of ramparts and structures from a fortified tower castle, along with the nearby Burghöhle Dietfurt, a cave beneath the ruins that has yielded important paleolithic and mesolithic finds and was later used and modified by a 20th‑century esoteric order.
Today the ruin and cave area are cultural‑heritage sites, accessible as a local hiking and history destination in the Upper Danube nature park.
