Burgruine Hütting

Rennertshofen, Germany, Germany

---

Burgruine Hütting is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle situated on a dramatic limestone rock high above the village of Hütting near Rennertshofen in Bavaria.

The fortress was established around 1060 by the Counts of Lechsgemünd and later became the seat of the Lords of Hütting, who administered the surrounding area for several centuries. After the territory passed to the Wittelsbach rulers in the 14th century, the castle changed hands several times and was eventually destroyed during conflicts between rival Bavarian duchies around 1421–1422.

It was never rebuilt and gradually fell into ruin, with local residents reusing much of its stone for other buildings. Today, only parts of the former residential building and earthworks remain, but the site is valued for its historical significance and spectacular location. The ruins offer impressive views over the Wellheim Valley and surrounding Franconian Jura landscape, making them a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts.
