Burgruine Jungnau
Sigmaringen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Jungnau in Sigmaringen-Jungnau, Germany, is the prominent remnant of a 13th-century hilltop castle first mentioned in 1333, built around 1316 by Burkhard von Jungingen near the older Burg Schiltau to secure the Lauchert River crossing.
Originally spanning 3,100 square meters with a residential tower and fruit storage, most structures were demolished in 1844 for a schoolhouse, leaving only the striking 18-meter-high bergfried tower clad in buckelquader masonry with a Gothic pointed-arch entrance. Standing as a village landmark beside St. Anna Church, the free-access tower symbolizes local feudal history amid hiking trails through the scenic Swabian Alb valley.
