Burgruine Kallenberg
Buchheim, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Kallenberg is a high‑medieval castle ruin perched on a steep, roughly 776‑meter‑high ridge in the Donautal between the towns of Fridingen and Beuron, on the territory of the municipality of Buchheim in the Tuttlingen district of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
The fortress was built around 1200 and first appears in records in 1225 under the noble family of Kallenberg, later passing to the counts of Hohenberg, the Habsburgs, and several pledged owners, including the Truchsessen von Waldburg.
Today it is one of the most prominent ruins in the upper Danube valley, with a well‑preserved, roughly 14‑meter‑high Bergfried, long stretches of ring wall, and scattered masonry remains, while about 100 meters east lies a small associated Höhlenburg with preserved portal fragments, and the site is freely accessible as a scenic hiking and viewpoint stop above the river and the Scheuerlehof valley.
