Burgruine Karlstein is a medieval castle ruin located on a rocky hill above the Karlstein district of Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, Germany.

The fortress was built shortly before 1150 by Konrad von Peilstein and was first mentioned in historical records in 1208. Its elevated position provided excellent views and strong natural defenses. In 1218, the castle came under Bavarian control and later served as the center of a local estate and court district. Over time, it was expanded into a more comfortable noble residence, but by the late 17th century it had fallen into decline and gradually became a ruin.

Today, the restored ruins are a popular historical attraction and hiking destination. Visitors can explore the remaining walls, enjoy panoramic views of Bad Reichenhall and the surrounding mountains, and visit the nearby pilgrimage church of St. Pankraz, which stands just below the castle site.
