Burgruine Klingenfels
Ilshofen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Klingenfels is the site of a former medieval hilltop castle near the village of Steinbächle in Ilshofen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The castle was built in the late 12th or early 13th century by the noble Lords of Klingenfels, a family first documented in 1222. The fortress occupied a strong defensive position on a spur above the Schmerach Valley and later passed to ministerial families connected with the Lords of Hohenlohe.
During the Cities' War in 1381, the castle was destroyed, likely because it had become associated with raids and regional conflicts. Today. These remains provide an insight into the medieval history of the Ilshofen area and the strategic importance of castles in the Hohenlohe region.
