Burgruine Lichtenstein is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle located above Pommelsbrunn in Bavaria. The castle was first mentioned in records in 1270 and occupied a strategic position overlooking important historic routes through the surrounding valleys. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and was damaged or destroyed during regional conflicts. After its destruction in the early 15th century, it was never fully rebuilt and gradually fell into ruin. In the 19th century, parts of the site were adapted in the Romantic style, including the construction of a decorative pseudo-ruin on the upper castle area. Today, visitors can explore the freely accessible ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Franconian landscape. Although only fragments of the original fortress remain, the site is an important historical monument and a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts.
