Burgruine Liebenstein is a medieval castle ruin located on a granite hill above the village of Liebenstein near Plößberg in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region.

The hilltop castle was first mentioned in 1125 and served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Liebenstein, an important local noble family. After the Liebenstein family died out in the late 13th century, the castle was sold to Waldsassen Abbey, which strengthened and maintained the fortress. During and after the Reformation. 

Today, the site preserves restored sections of its walls and foundations, offering visitors a glimpse into its medieval past. Perched high above the surrounding landscape, the ruins are a popular local landmark and provide scenic views of the Upper Palatinate countryside.
