Burgruine Mägdeberg
Mühlhausen-Ehingen, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Mägdeberg is a medieval hill castle ruin perched at around 654 meters on the volcanic Mägdeberg phonolite cone, 1.5 km southwest of Mühlhausen-Ehingen in Germany's Konstanz district, Baden-Württemberg.
Built between 1235-1240 under Reichenau Abbey abbot Konrad von Zimmern and first documented as "castrum Megideberc" in 1240, it endured multiple destructions including by the Swabian League in 1378 and Swedish/Württemberg forces in the Thirty Years' War, finally abandoned by the late 17th century.
Well-preserved remnants include the gate tower, bergfried base, shield walls, and cistern amid the Hegau's strategic landscape near Hohenkrähen and Hohentwiel, now privately owned by the Douglas von Langenstein counts and accessible via short hikes from nearby parking for panoramic views.
