Burgruine Müneck
Ammerbuch, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Müneck is the remains of a small medieval hilltop fortress located on a forested ridge about 543 meters above sea level overlooking the village of Breitenholz, which belongs to the town of Ammerbuch in the Tübingen district of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
The castle, built around 1100 by the local noble family von Müneck, served as a Höhenburg or “protection and defiance castle” controlling the edge of the Schönbuch plateau and the upper Ammertal. Today almost no actual buildings survive, and the site is marked mainly by deep moats, earthworks, and scattered stones that still outline the former core and outer bailey, with only a few moss‑covered masonry remnants visible.
The ruin lies within the Schönbuch‑Westhang/Ammerbuch nature reserve and is reached by short footpaths from Breitenholz, offering a wooded, atmospheric historical stop with views over the Ammertal rather than a major reconstructed monument.
