Burgruine Reußenstein
Wiesensteig, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Reußenstein near Wiesensteig, Germany, is a striking medieval castle ruin perched at 760 meters above sea level on a cliff overlooking the Neidlingen valley in Baden-Württemberg's Swabian Alb.
Built around 1270 by the Dukes of Teck as a ministerial fortress to guard the strategic pass into the Swabian Alb, it was soon acquired by the Reuss family—renaming it Reußenstein—and changed hands 11 times in 50 years, including to the Counts of Helfenstein in 1441 before abandonment after 1550.
Restored in 1965-1966, the dramatic ruins feature remnants of walls and towers accessible by easy hikes, offering panoramic views and pairing well with nearby Neidlingen Waterfalls for scenic outings from Stuttgart.
