Burgruine Rosenberg is the ruin of a small medieval hilltop castle located above the Mettlach Valley near the village of Rosenberg, part of Rügland in Bavaria. The castle was probably built in the 14th century and was owned by the noble von Vestenberg family, whose branch became known as “von Vestenberg zu Rosenberg.” After the Rosenberg line of the family died out and ownership became centered on nearby Schloss Rügland, the castle gradually lost its importance and fell into disrepair. By the late 16th century it was already considered dilapidated. Today, only parts of the fortress remain, including a distinctive round corner tower, sections of walls, earthworks, and the surrounding ditch. Despite its ruined state, Burgruine Rosenberg is a notable local landmark that offers a glimpse into the medieval history of the Rügland area and attractive views of the surrounding countryside.
