Burgruine Steinhart
Hainsfarth, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Steinhart is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle located above the village of Steinhart, part of Hainsfarth in Bavaria, Germany.
The castle’s origins date back to the 12th century and it was once the seat of the noble Spät von Steinhart family, who played an important role in the region’s medieval history. A newer castle was built on the site in the 14th century after an earlier nearby fortress was abandoned. Over time, the property passed through several noble owners before falling into decline and likely being destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War in 1634.
Today, substantial wall remains and earthworks can still be seen on the hilltop, offering visitors a glimpse into the castle’s former defensive structure. The ruin overlooks the Nördlinger Ries landscape and is a popular destination for local history enthusiasts and hikers.
