Burgruine Weisswasserstelz
Hohentengen am Hochrhein, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Weisswasserstelz is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle on a roughly 340‑meter‑high spur on the northern bank of the Rhine near the villages of Wasserstelz and Guggenmühle, part of Hohentengen am Hochrhein in Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
Built around the 12th century, it originally belonged to the wealthy monastery of Reichenau and served as a fortified seat for the local lords of Wasserstelz, forming part of a trio of strategically placed fortresses along this stretch of the Rhine.
Today the site is largely overgrown by forest but still accessible by a small footpath, with scattered remnants of walls and foundations visible on the rocky height, while the nearby river‑side area offers a bathing beach, a small waterfall, and the historic Wasserstelz inn in the old tithe barn, making it a quiet, scenic spot for walkers and day visitors.
