Burgruine Werdenfels is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle located above the Loisach Valley near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries, it later became the administrative and judicial center of the County of Werdenfels under the Prince-Bishopric of Freising. Perched on a rocky spur about 80 meters above the valley floor, the castle occupied a strategic position overlooking important trade routes through the Alps.

It remained in use until 1632, after which the administrative functions were moved elsewhere and the fortress gradually fell into ruin. Parts of the structure were later dismantled, with stones reused in local buildings and churches. Today, the freely accessible ruins are a popular hiking destination, offering impressive views of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Wetterstein Mountains, and the surrounding Bavarian Alps.
