Burgstall Bachern, also known as the “Alte Burg” (Old Castle), is the site of a former medieval hilltop castle located south of the Friedberg district of Bachern in Bavaria, Germany. The castle was likely the seat of a local noble family during the High Middle Ages, with references to lords of Bachern appearing in historical records from the 12th century. Today, the castle itself has disappeared, but important earthworks remain, including a large motte-like mound and a defensive ditch. These surviving features make the site a valuable example of an early medieval fortified residence. Although only archaeological remains are visible, Burgstall Bachern offers insight into the region’s medieval history and the small noble families who once controlled the surrounding area. Its wooded setting has helped preserve the character of this historic site.
