Burgstall Hohenkressberg
Kreßberg, Germany, Germany
Burgstall Hohenkressberg is the site of a former medieval hilltop castle located on the Kreßberg near the village of Hohenkressberg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The castle was probably built in the 13th century by the Lords of Kreßberg and was first mentioned in historical records around 1303. Over the centuries, the castle changed ownership several times and became the center of the local lordship of Kreßberg. After being sold to Ulrich von Knöringen in 1545, the castle eventually declined and was destroyed by fire in 1648.
Today, only remnants of the fortress survive, including traces of walls, ditches, and earthworks. In 1723, a pilgrimage chapel was built within the former castle area, and the site remains an important historical landmark that gave its name to the modern municipality of Kreßberg.
