Bute Park
Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom
Bute Park is a large, Grade I listed urban park of about 130 acres sitting right behind Cardiff Castle along the east bank of the River Taff in the heart of Cardiff, Wales.
It was originally the private Victorian pleasure garden of the Marquesses of Bute, later given to the city and now maintained by Cardiff Council as a major public green space. The park mixes formal gardens, an arboretum with over 2,000 trees (including some “champion” specimens), woodland, riverside paths, and open lawns, while also preserving layers of history from Roman and medieval times through to the industrial era.
It is popular with walkers, runners, families, and event‑goers, hosting festivals, fireworks, Christmas lights and other activities, and it remains one of the city’s main “green lungs,” easily accessible from the city centre and public transport.
