Buxton Park Arboretum in Indianola, Iowa, is a 5.4-acre public arboretum and botanical garden donated to the city in 1906 by William and Elizabeth Buxton as its first public park.
The arboretum features formal botanical gardens with twelve flowerbeds, a variety of over sixty species of trees and shrubs including rare and non-native varieties, a butterfly garden, a children's garden with interactive activities, an ornamental fountain, and a gazebo. It offers a peaceful green space adjacent to Simpson College where visitors can enjoy walking trails, public art, and a self-guided audio tree tour that highlights 25 types of trees.
The park also hosts the Indianola Summer Art Festival during the National Balloon Classic, making it both a natural retreat and a cultural hub for the community.
