First mentioned in 1122 and transformed from a medieval structure into a Renaissance hunting lodge under Duke Johann Casimir in 1588, it gained its striking Neo-Gothic revival style during 19th-century renovations by Dukes Ernst I and Ernst II, featuring a grand family chapel, landscape gardens, and a former silkworm farm. Owned by the ducal family until 1945 and now housing the Ducal Art Collection with Roentgen furniture alongside the German Rifle Museum, it remains a private residence open seasonally for tours, blending royal heritage with panoramic views.
