Castle Hohentübingen is a historic hilltop complex in the town of Tübingen in Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, located on the 372‑meter‑high Schlossberg and forming a striking four‑wing Renaissance building with round towers that overlooks the Neckar valley and the Swabian Alb.

The site began as a medieval castle first mentioned in 1078 as “castrum twingia,” which served as the seat of the counts of Tübingen until they sold it and the town to the counts of Württemberg in 1342. Over the following centuries the castle was remodelled into a Renaissance residence, and today it houses the University of Tübingen’s Museum Alte Kulturen, which displays thousands of archaeological and cultural exhibits from prehistory through ancient Egypt and beyond, alongside historical research spaces and the restored Bohnenberger Observatory.

The castle grounds are freely accessible, and the museum offers visitors a panoramic view of the town along with one of Germany’s major university‑based culture and archaeology collections.
