Castle in Dzialdowo
Działdowo, Poland, Poland
Castle in Działdowo, Poland, is a Teutonic Knights' fortress built starting around 1306 in what was once a marshy, forested area called Sasinia, initially as a watchtower that evolved into a full brick castle by the 1440s to guard the Mazovian border.
It played key roles in conflicts like the Grunwald campaign of 1410, when Polish-Lithuanian forces briefly captured it, and the Thirteen Years' War, changing hands amid sieges, before heavy damage in 1520 during Polish-Teutonic clashes left it weakened.
A preserved southeast wing remains as a four-story relic amid later Renaissance and Baroque adaptations, now overlooking the town granted privileges in 1344 near the castle.
