The Castle of Sárospatak, also known as Rákóczi Castle, is one of Hungary’s most important and best-preserved Renaissance castles.

Located in the historic town of Sárospatak on the Bodrog River, it developed from a medieval fortress into a grand noble residence and played a major role in Hungarian political and cultural history. The castle is closely associated with the influential Rákóczi family, who owned it during its golden age in the 17th century. It served as a center of power, was linked to Hungary’s struggles for independence, and hosted important political events, including activities connected to Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II.

Its most famous feature is the impressive Red Tower, dating from the late 15th century, along with elegant Renaissance galleries, palace wings, and fortified bastions. These architectural elements make the castle a remarkable example of Hungarian Renaissance design.
