Caversham Court
Reading, England, United Kingdom
Caversham Court in Reading, England, is a historic public garden covering 1.3 hectares on the north bank of the River Thames in the Caversham suburb, originally laid out between 1660 and 1681 by Thomas Loveday around a mansion that served as a private retreat, rectory, and later home to the Simonds family.
The Grade II listed landscape features a crinkle-crankle wall, formal terraces, mature trees, and Thames views within the St Peter's conservation area, with the house demolished in 1933 after Reading Borough Council acquired the site, opening the restored gardens to visitors in 1934 and fully in 2009 following lottery-funded restoration.
Today it offers picnic spots, a café, accessible paths, parking, and hosts the annual Reading Open Air Shakespeare festival by Progress Theatre each July.
