Chahriq-e Olya is a village in Salmas County, West Azerbaijan Province, in northwestern Iran.

It serves as the administrative center of the Chahriq Rural District and had a population of 831 people according to the 2016 census, making it the largest village in the district. The village has a long and interesting history due to its location near Iran’s historical northwestern frontier.

It was home to diverse communities, including Kurds, Armenians, and Assyrians, and was affected by regional conflicts involving the Ottoman Empire and Russia during the 19th century. Chahriq-e Olya is also known for its connection to the Báb, the founder of the Bábí faith, who was imprisoned in Chahriq in 1848. This association gives the village an important place in the religious history of Iran.
