Chandipur
Odisha, India
Chandipur is a small coastal resort town in Balasore district of Odisha, India, situated on the shore of the Bay of Bengal about 16 kilometers from Balasore railway station.
The beach is famous for a rare natural phenomenon where the sea water recedes up to around 5 kilometers during low tide, leaving a wide expanse of wet sand that visitors can walk on, and then returns fully during high tide. This “hide and seek” sea creates a unique ecosystem supporting biodiversity such as horseshoe crabs, starfish, and sea urchins, although the water is usually muddy and considered unsuited for traditional bathing.
Chandipur also lies close to the Integrated Test Range (ITR) on the nearby island of Abdul Kalam, used for missile testing, adding a different dimension to the region’s profile.
