Chester M. Alter Arboretum is located on the University of Denver campus in Colorado and was established in 1999 to honor the university’s 12th chancellor, Chester M. Alter.
The arboretum features around 2,100 to 2,150 trees, representing over 240 to 427 species and varieties, including many rare specimens and several state champion trees—those that are the largest of their species in Colorado.
Open year-round for free public access, the arboretum provides a peaceful green space for study, enjoyment, and learning, while also supporting conservation, research, and urban biodiversity within the university and the surrounding University Park neighborhood.
