Clegg Memorial Garden
Indiana, United States
The Clegg Memorial Garden, also known as the Jerry E. Clegg Botanic Garden, is a 17-acre nature preserve in Lafayette, Indiana, overlooking Wildcat Creek and featuring a rare gravel hill prairie ecosystem.
The garden includes over 1.5 miles of trails winding through oak woodland, prairie, riparian corridors, and savanna, offering diverse habitats and seasonal highlights such as spring wildflowers, summer prairie blooms, and vibrant fall foliage. The property was purchased by the Clegg family in the late 1930s as a private retreat and was later opened to the public in 1965 in memory of their son, Jerry.
Managed by the NICHES Land Trust since 2014, the garden serves as a peaceful natural sanctuary with labeled native plants, bridges, and a natural playground, welcoming visitors year-round from dawn until dusk to explore and enjoy its changing landscapes.
