Cliveden House is a grand 17th‑/19th‑century country mansion near Maidenhead set in about 376 acres of formal gardens and woodland on the River Thames, now operating as a luxury five‑star hotel and spa while the gardens are managed by the National Trust. Designed in its current Italianate/Palladian style by Charles Barry after earlier houses were destroyed by fire, the property has hosted British royalty, political elites and famous social events across more than 350 years of history. The estate is known for its richly landscaped terraces, riverside walks, formal parterres and sculpture, and it played a notable role in 20th‑century British social and political life (including the Profumo Affair) before becoming a commercial hotel in the late 20th century.
