The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine, opened in 2007 after 16 years of planning by dedicated local residents.

It is the largest botanical garden in New England, covering over 300 acres of rugged coastal forest and tidal saltwater frontage. The gardens feature a variety of themed spaces including ornamental gardens, a learning garden, a children’s garden, a native butterfly and moth house, and expansive natural landscapes designed to showcase native plants and the region’s unique ecology.

The site integrates art, horticulture, and environmental stewardship, with impressive structures like the Maine Cottage-style Visitor Center and the Haney Hillside Garden, featuring terraces and natural stone elements. The gardens attract over 200,000 visitors annually and serve as a cultural and educational hub focused on connecting people with nature, botany, and conservation in a beautiful coastal setting.
