Coburger Sommerschlösschen
Coburg, Germany, Germany
The Coburger Sommerschlösschen generally refers to Schloss Ketschendorf, a small palace in Coburg that was originally built in 1803 as a summer residence for Duchess Augusta of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld.
Designed in the Empire style, it served as a peaceful retreat and later became the duchess’s widow’s residence. In 1868, the property was acquired by the French opera singer Rosine Stoltz, who had been granted the title Baroness of Ketschendorf.
She replaced the aging building with a larger Neo-Gothic castle designed by architect Georg Konrad Rothbart, giving it the appearance it largely retains today. Today, Schloss Ketschendorf is considered an outstanding example of Neo-Gothic castle architecture in Coburg.
