Crapo Park in Burlington, Iowa, is an 85-acre historic city park established in 1895 for Iowa’s semi-centennial celebrations. Located along the Mississippi River, it features an extensive arboretum with over 200 tree and shrub varieties, botanical gardens, and scenic walking trails.
The park is reputed to be the site where the American flag was first raised on Iowa soil by Zebulon Pike in 1805. Visitors enjoy landmarks like the Hawkeye Natives Log Cabin museum, Black Hawk Spring and Cave, Lake Starker, and the Pike Memorial. With playgrounds, picnic areas, a band shell, and beautiful views of the river, Crapo Park provides a peaceful natural and historical setting for recreation and community events.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, recognizing its cultural and ecological significance.
