Crown Prince's Palace
Berlin, Germany, Germany
Crown Prince's Palace (Kronprinzenpalais) in Berlin, Germany, sits prominently on Unter den Linden boulevard in the historic Mitte district, originally constructed in 1663 as a private residence for Cabinet Secretary Johann Martitz and remodeled in Baroque style by 1732 for Crown Prince Frederick II.
It housed successive Prussian crown princes including Frederick William IV and Wilhelm I—born there in 1797—until 1918, later serving from 1919-1937 as the National Gallery's modern art collection before wartime destruction led to its 1968-1970 neoclassical reconstruction by Richard Paulick.
Today the listed building hosts exhibitions, theater performances, cultural events, and famously the 1990 German Reunification Treaty signing opposite the German Historical Museum.
