Czyżów Szlachecki Castle
Czyżów Szlachecki, Poland, Poland
Czyżów Szlachecki Castle in Czyżów Szlachecki, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland, originated as a defensive castle likely founded around 1412 by kasztelan sandomierski Michał z Czyżowa on an artificially elevated hill, featuring stone fortifications that were destroyed during the Swedish wars in the 17th century. Stones from its ruins were repurposed to construct the current late Baroque palace around 1740-1750 by kasztelan połaniecki Jan Aleksander Czyżowski, incorporating a richly decorated fronton with Greek mythological sculptures by Jesuit artist Tomasz Hutter and a central portal adorned with a crown and the Topór noble coat of arms. Rebuilt and altered at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries, the palace—along with its park—stands as a protected historic monument since 1946, blending Renaissance foundations with opulent Baroque features amid local legends of Tatar labor.
