Diu is a small island territory off the southern coast of Gujarat’s Kathiawar peninsula in western India, separated from the mainland by a tidal creek and lying in the Gulf of Khambhat on the Arabian Sea.

The island covers roughly 40 square kilometres and has a relaxed, laid‑back character, known for its Portuguese colonial past, historic forts, churches, and fortified town walls that give its main settlement a distinctive Mediterranean‑style feel.

It is ringed by several quiet beaches such as Ghogla, Nagoa, and Chakratirth, which attract visitors looking for calm sands and sea alongside simple water sports and seafood.
