Dunge Valley Gardens
High Peak, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
Dunge Valley Gardens is an 8‑acre private woodland garden set in a small valley in the High Peak area of the Peak District National Park, near the Cheshire–Derbyshire border.
The site, laid out since the early 1980s around an old stone farmhouse, is known for its lush, moisture‑loving planting and has been likened to a “mini Bodnant” for its dramatic rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, acers, and blue poppies.
Visitors walk along paths beside streams, waterfalls, ponds, and bog gardens, enjoying a kaleidoscope of colour in spring and a peaceful, almost Himalayan‑valley atmosphere high up on the Pennines.
The gardens open only for a short period each year, mainly on weekends and bank‑holiday Mondays in late spring, and are often combined with a small plant‑sale operation, making them a seasonal gem for garden enthusiasts and nature lovers.
