Dźwiniacz Dolny
Poland, Poland
Dźwiniacz Dolny is a small village in Poland's Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Bieszczady County, within Gmina Ustrzyki Dolne, nestled at around 510 meters elevation in the Słonne Mountains Park near the Dźwiniacz stream and surrounded by peaks like Ostry Dział. First mentioned in 1482 as Jaczkowa Wola and founded under Wallachian law by kniaz Jacek under the Kmita family, it featured a 16th-century fortified manor (fortalitium) owned by noble families like Ossoliński, Turcz, and Rossowski, with remnants of defensive ramparts, ditches, and burned foundations from a 1947 UPA raid. Depopulated in 1946 during border shifts with the USSR—losing 760 residents and 119 homes amid Operation Vistula—it was reclaimed by Poland in 1951 and repopulated after 1959 by settlers from Lublin and Zamojskie regions, preserving a wooden 1717 bell tower with a 16th-century bell, an abandoned Greek Catholic church, and a 19th-century owner's grave.
