East Side Gallery
Berlin, Germany
The East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany, is the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall and one of the world’s largest open-air art galleries. Stretching about 1.3 kilometers along the Spree River, it was transformed in 1990 by 118 artists from 21 countries into a series of colorful murals celebrating freedom, peace, and the end of Germany’s division. The artworks reflect the political and social changes that followed the fall of the Berlin Wall and have turned a former symbol of separation into a powerful symbol of unity and hope. Today, the East Side Gallery is both a historic memorial and one of Berlin’s most visited cultural attractions.
