Ehem. Burg Meidelstetten
Hohenstein, Germany, Germany
Ehem. Burg Meidelstetten (Burg Meidelstetten) is the ruins of a summit castle located at 829.5 meters above sea level on the Reifenbrünnelesfelsen rock approximately 700–800 meters north of Meidelstetten, a village in the municipality of Hohenstein in the Reutlingen district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built between 1100 and 1150, the small fortress was the seat of the noble Lords of Meidelstetten, an hereditary knightly family documented in the 12th and 13th centuries with Rodeger von Meindelstetten and his son Heinrich mentioned multiple times, who served the Counts of Achalm and later the Lords of Neuffen.
The castle was probably abandoned at the end of the 12th century and possibly destroyed by fire, with no detailed records of its destruction available. Today visible remains include wall remnants of core masonry and a retaining wall, two shallow ditches, and several depressions or hollows on a gently southward-sloping hill in the forest area called "Reifenbrünnele," and the site is classified as a castle site (Burgstall) in the Reutlingen region.
