Ehem. Burg Weiler (Münzdorf)
Hayingen, Germany, Germany
Ehem. Burg Weiler (Münzdorf) is the vanished site of a small medieval hilltop castle that once stood on a 649‑meter‑high cone‑shaped hill known as the Kapf or Käpfle, about 40 meters above the Lautertal and roughly 300 meters north of the village of Weiler, which belongs to the town of Hayingen in the Reutlingen district of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
The fortress, now referred to as a Burgstelle, appears to have been built in the first half of the 12th century, probably as a wooden‑built Gipfelburg or minor noble outpost, and was likely abandoned by the 13th century, after which it disappeared from most written records.
Today almost no walls or buildings survive above ground, and only subtle earthworks, a faint ring‑shaped ditch, and other weak traces in the terrain mark the former location, with the summit now used mainly as a Calvary path (Kreuzweg) leading up to a small summit cross rather than as a visible castle ruin. The site lies just south of the better‑preserved Burg Derneck and is visited mainly by informed hikers exploring the dense cluster of castles along the Swabian Jura’s eastern edge.
