The former Schloss Unterschwaningen was originally a medieval moated castle and later became a residence of the Margraves of Ansbach in the village of Unterschwaningen, Bavaria. Its history dates back to at least the 12th century, and over time it passed through several noble families before becoming an important markgräflich (margravial) estate. In the 18th century, the castle was transformed into a summer residence for the Margravines of Ansbach. Extensive gardens, waterways, and additional buildings were created, making it one of the region’s notable aristocratic estates. After the area became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806, much of the main palace complex was demolished. Today, only parts of the former residence, including several baroque pavilions and auxiliary buildings, survive, offering a glimpse of the scale and elegance of what was once a significant princely residence.
