Ehemalige Burg Baldeck
Bad Urach, Germany, Germany
Ehemalige Burg Baldeck, also called Ruine Baldeck or "Mörderschlössle," is a former medieval hilltop castle ruin overlooking the Ermstal valley near Wittlingen in Bad Urach, Germany.
Built between 1100 and 1200 as a rock fortress by the noble Baldeck family—who served as ministers for the Counts of Urach and later Württemberg—it was first mentioned in 1256 during a siege by Counts Ulrich I of Württemberg, Hartmann I of Grüningen, and Rudolf of Tübingen, likely leading to its destruction by fire around that time.
Today, only scant wall remnants survive on the steep cliffs about 4.5 km southeast of Bad Urach, accessible via hiking trails for those exploring the Swabian Alb's rugged history.
