Eichstätt Summer Residence

Eichstätt, Germany, Germany

---

The Eichstätt Summer Residence (Sommerresidenz Eichstätt) is an elegant Baroque palace built between 1735 and 1737 as the summer home of the Prince-Bishops of Eichstätt.

Designed by the renowned architect Gabriel de Gabrieli, it was created as a prestigious retreat surrounded by formal gardens and decorative pavilions. The palace is known for its harmonious Baroque architecture and the beautiful Hofgarten, a historic garden that stretches toward the Altmühl River. Inside, the highlight is the magnificent Holzer Hall, decorated with a ceiling fresco by Johann Evangelist Holzer.

After serving various purposes over the centuries, including use by the Dukes of Leuchtenberg and a seminary, the building was restored and now functions as the main administrative center of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. It remains one of Eichstätt’s most notable cultural and architectural landmarks.
