Ellingen Residence is a grand Baroque palace in the town of Ellingen, Bavaria, that served for more than 400 years as the residence of the territorial commanders of the Teutonic Order's Franconian province, one of the order’s most important and wealthy regions. A castle existed on the site by the early 13th century, and the present palace was largely built in the early 18th century. The residence was redesigned and expanded over time, combining Baroque architecture with elegant Neoclassical elements. Its richly decorated rooms, stucco work, frescoes, and historic furnishings are considered among the finest examples of palace interiors in Bavaria. Today, Ellingen Residence is a state-owned historic monument open to visitors through guided tours. Along with its chapel, landscaped park, and museums, it offers a fascinating insight into the history of the Teutonic Order and the aristocratic culture of Franconia.
