Fairhaven Gardens
United Kingdom, United Kingdom
Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, located in South Walsham on the Norfolk Broads in England, United Kingdom, spans 130 acres of ancient woodland and water features created by the 2nd Baron Fairhaven, Henry Rogers Broughton, starting in 1946 after he purchased the former military-used estate.
Designed personally with a team of gardeners, it transformed overgrown jungle into a serene landscape with over 3.5 miles of paths winding through shade-loving plants like thousands of candelabra primulas, skunk cabbages, camellias, rhododendrons, and imported exotics, alongside an inner broad with pleasure boats, bird hides, and visible World War II tank bays.
Opened to the public in 1975 per Lord Fairhaven's wishes via a trust, the site offers a tearoom, gift shop, children's nature trail, plant sales, and wildlife viewing, preserving its heritage for visitors year-round.
