Farasuto Forest Community Nature Reserve, located near Brikama in The Gambia, is a community-managed protected area that preserves one of the country's few remaining patches of wet evergreen forest. Despite its relatively small size, it is an important refuge for native wildlife and a valuable example of the forest ecosystems that once covered much larger areas of the country. The reserve is particularly famous for birdwatching, attracting visitors with its rich variety of resident and migratory bird species, including owls, turacos, kingfishers, parrots, and many other forest birds. Its mix of woodland, wetlands, freshwater pools, and mangroves supports diverse wildlife and offers excellent opportunities for nature photography and guided walks. Managed in partnership with local communities, Farasuto Forest Community Nature Reserve combines conservation, environmental education, and sustainable tourism. It is widely regarded as one of the best places in The Gambia to experience the country's remaining forest habitats and observe wildlife in a natural setting.
