Fraserganj Sea Beach
Bakkhali, West Bengal, India
Fraserganj Sea Beach is a quiet, white‑sand shoreline in the Bakkhali–Fraserganj area of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India, about 125–130 kilometers south of Kolkata near the western edge of the Sundarbans.
It forms part of an 8‑kilometer‑long continuous beach that runs from Bakkhali to Fraserganj, with gentle rolling waves, casuarina and coconut trees, and a generally uncrowded, laid‑back atmosphere. The area is named after Andrew Fraser, an early‑20th‑century British official who tried to develop it as a resort before repeated sea erosion washed away constructions, and his old office ruins can still be seen nearby.
Fraserganj also has a small fishing harbour and a windmill park, and the beach is popular with local and weekend visitors for long walks, sunset views, and a simple, low‑developed seaside experience close to the Sundarbans delta.
